Beavers victorious over Whitehall

The Augusta boys basketball team ran away with a 10-point victory at home on Friday, Dec. 12 with a 48-38 win over visiting Whitehall.
Coming out on top in the first quarter of play, the Beavers fired away for a 12-5 lead over the Norse, who were not ready to back down to the home team, as they proved when they went point for point against Augusta before halftime.
Running out of steam, the Beavers edged the visiting team by just two points and held a 34-25 gain over the Norse before beating them down in a quick final quarter.
Brandon Kimball rushed to the lane a number of times to add points to the board for the Beavers. The senior had 18 total points for the night and two assists. Fellow senior Noah Plewa served as a forced under the hoop with 18 total rebounds against the Norse, 12 of them defensive, while also adding 12 points to the Beavers’ total score.
Hunter Alix put in six points of his own, shooting at 100 percent to sink three field goals against Whitehall.
Senior Jordan Cerrillo, who carried the ball down court for Augusta, was an integral part of the Beavers’ defense, procuring eight turnovers, followed closely by Kimball, who had seven of his own.
The Beavers are currently at .500 within the Dairyland Conference, and will be traveling to take on Melrose-Mindoro Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs recently came off a tight win in overtime against Blair-Taylor and are currently riding high in conference play with a 3-0 record.
