Clarence Maug

Clarence Millard Maug, 95, of Strum, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System–Oakridge in Osseo.
Clarence was born September 13, 1922 in the Town of Hale to Carl and Mollie (Iverson) Maug. Clarence married Avis Anderson on June 3, 1944, in Strum. Together they had five children and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
  Clarence was a farmer his entire life, purchasing his own farm in the Town of Unity in 1951.  While farming he worked as a carpenter building houses and barns in the Strum area. He also drove school bus for the Eleva-Strum School District for a number of years.  He eventually sold the farm to his son and moved to the Village of Strum but still helped out on the family farm. He took black walnut trees from the farm and built beautiful black walnut furniture.
  Clarence enjoyed playing the violin and repairing violins for others. He enjoyed sports, especially the Brewers, Packers, and NASCAR. He was an excellent marksman, won many awards Match Shooting, and enjoyed hunting whitetail. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and known for his Norwegian accent around the community.
  Clarence will be greatly missed by his children, David Maug of Strum, Patricia Dekan (Jim Germann) of Brackett, Joanne (Steven) Herbenson of Eau Claire and Wayne (Susan) Maug of Eleva; brother, Chester (Nila) Maug of Osseo; sister, Ruth Engen of Strum; and special friend Edith Amundson of Osseo. He loved his eleven grandchildren, Jackie Bischoff (Jim Rizzo), Valerie (Rob) Herman, Michael Maug, Matthew Maug, Cory Maug, Kayte (Dave) Thompson, Kevin Dekan (Jamie Renfro), Keyla (David) Guenther, Anthony (Kristi) Herbenson, Shad Seidl and Kyle Maug.  He was also blessed by fourteen great grandchildren and many other loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
  In addition to his wife Avis, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Enger, daughter-in-law, Carol Maug, brother, John Maug and sisters, Lillian Myhre, Harriet Anderson and Corrine Ottestad.
  Funeral services for Clarence will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating.  Burial will be in West Beef River Lutheran Cemetery in rural Strum.
  Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church and on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
