Edward Schaefer

Edward William Schaefer, 97, of Osseo, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Winona Health in Winona, MN.
Edward was born January 5, 1921 in the town of Hale, Trempealeau County, to William and Anna (Langner) Schaefer.
Edward married Ethel Olson on December 15, 1945 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church. Ethel preceded him in death on January 1, 1999.
Edward served in the U.S. Army/Air Force Command during WWII. He spent the majority of his tour in North Africa. During his career he wore many hats, He was a farmer, a mechanic for Gunderson Chevrolet and a rural mail carrier for 33 years.
Edward was very active in his community. He served as a census taker, treasurer of the Caswell School Board, a charter member of the Pleasantville Lions Club, treasurer of Elk Creek Lutheran Church, and he worked in civil defense. He was a life member of both the Carl Nelson American Legion Post #324 and Craig S. Olson VFW Post #8514.
In his free time, he enjoyed all types of sports, woodworking and his trips to Canada fishing.
Edward is survived by his daughters, Jerilyn (Thomas) Klosterman of Montverde, FL, Sandra (Donald) Rumpel of Fountain City and Cheryl (Gene) Huset of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna; brothers Frederick, Raymond, and Truman Schaefer and Ernest Langner; and sisters Evelyn Larson, Hazel Vold, Clara Hammer, Esther Jacobson and Wilma Jacobson.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2018 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church in the Town of Hale, with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo. Friends may also call from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church on Monday.
