Fall Creek drops Stanley-Boyd

Crickets storm back to claim win

Matt Anderson and Braden Walbeck each scored in double-digits as the Crickets cruised to a 29-point win on the road in their last season game of 2014 over the Stanley-Boyd Orioles 62-33.

The win kept the Crickets just one game behind conference leader Regis with a 4-1 overall record. Anderson, the 6-foot-7-inch senior, had 28 points in the game and added 10 rebounds as well as three blocked shots. Walbeck followed with a solid outing, as the fellow senior collected 15 points and dished out five assists.

Fall Creek’s defense was strong in the first period as they held their hosts scoreless.

The Crickets jumped out to a 13-0 lead after the opening quarter. The two teams each scored 16 points in the second. Fall Creek led 29-16 at halftime. The second half completely belonged to the Crickets. They outscored S-B 33-17 in the last two periods, though the Orioles drilled an impressive 3-point shot at the game’s final buzzer. However, it was the only three points the team scored in the period. In the opening and final quarter, Fall Creek outscored the Orioles 24-3.

The Crickets will next be back in action after the New Year. On Tuesday, Jan. 5, they will travel to Eleva-Strum in a non-conference match-up. Following their match against the Cardinals, they will host tough competitors Altoona and Bloomer.

The team ended 2014 as recently ranked no. 6 in an Associated Press sports writer poll and no. 8 in the WBCA Coaches Poll among Division 4 schools.

The Fall Creek basketball team trailed 41-32 with just under four minutes left in the third period when they faced McDonell, yet went on to post a 60-46 come from behind win over the Macks.

Devin Kinsella went 4-4 at the charity stripe and Eric Reetz added a pair to round out the scoring attack.
