Fall Creek parking regulations get update at board meeting

by Dan Groeschel

The Fall Creek Village Board voted Tuesday night to change the street parking regulations during the winter months.

The new ordinance will allow residents to park on the street during winter. They will have to follow alternate-side parking regulations, meaning on even calendar days they will park on the side of the street with even house numbers; and vice versa on odd days.

The alternate side parking will go into effect at midnight Nov. 1 and will run through the end of March. The Village Board said while those who park on the street won’t get ticketed if they are on the correct side of the street, they may still get plowed in.

Chad Dachel, Fall Creek Police Chief, said if there is no snowfall on a particular evening, the police aren’t going to write tickets. However, those who don’t abide by the new alternate side parking regulations will be issued a $20 ticket.

Reminders of this change will be posted on residents’ water bills.

Also discussed at the Tuesday meeting was potential improvements to village employees’ compensation packages. The board discussed at length ways they could improve the health insurance options.

Village President Chester Goodman cited a desire to retain the good employees the village has, as well as wanting to be able to recruit new employees. He also said he wants to see a more consistent health coverage plan so the board doesn’t have to revisit the issue year-after-year.
