JANE OLSON

Jane Otilde Olson, 100, of Osseo, died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Strum Area Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jane was born February 16, 1917, in Bruce Valley to Otto and Jennie (Spangberg) Bergerson. Jane graduated from Mondovi High School in 1934 and received her teaching certificate from Eau Claire State Teachers College in 1936. She taught at Skogstad and Riverview rural schools for five years.
Jane married Norman Olson on June 8, 1941, in Strum. Together they farmed in Tracey Valley for 33 years. In 1974 Jane and Norman moved to a small hobby farm south of Osseo where they lived until Norman’s death in 1997. Jane lived independently in Osseo until suffering a stroke in 2009. Jane became a resident of the Strum Area Health and Rehabilitation Center where she lived out her remaining years with great determination and grace.
After raising her family, Jane became a teacher’s assistant at Osseo Elementary School, retiring in 1982. Jane was an active member of her church and community. She taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School Superintendant for many years, was active in the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church Women, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered at the Osseo Nursing Home. She continued to read to fellow residents while she was a nursing home resident herself.
Jane was an excellent seamstress making most of her clothes and numerous quilts for family members and the church quilting group. She was a gracious hostess and a wonderful baker. At holiday time Jane gave away many Norwegian goodies such as rosettes, krumkake and lefse.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Michael) Sortum of Shakopee, MN, Sally (Robert) Young of Fishers, IN and Beth (Michael) Dana of Lafayette, IN; six grandchildren, Kari (Nick) Koerner, Mark (Sarah) Sortum, Ryan Young (Lauren Vogler), Erika (Chris) Barry, Megan (Colin) Meadows and Stephanie (Matt) Dana-Ely; seven great-grandchildren, Elias and Lucas Koerner, Emmett and Henry Sortum, Matthew and Audrey Barry, and Sybil Jane Meadows. She is further survived by two sisters, Clarice Bergerson of Strum and LaRayne Seguin of Alma Center; two brothers, Gerald “Java” (Jane) Bergerson of Strum and Laurie Bergerson of Phoenix, AZ; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Bergerson of Fridley, MN and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jane was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jennie Dana; brothers and sisters, Odell (Clara) Bergerson, Georgine (Clarence) Johnson, Lucile (Felix) Sobyak, Minerva Bergerson, Jarvis Bergerson, James Bergerson, sister-in-law Barbara Ann Bergerson and brother-in-law Bradley Seguin.
Memorial services will be Friday, July 28 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 at Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorials can be given to the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Activities Department at Strum Area Health and Rehabilitation.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Strum Area Health and Rehab for the wonderful care given to Jane for the past eight years.
