Roger Myren

Roger Ardell Myren, 84, of Osseo, formerly of Hurley, Somerset, and Janesville, died in his sleep at home on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
Roger was born June 3, 1933, in Whitehall, WI, to Aldor and Minnie (Herman) Myren and raised on the family farm. After serving a four year stint in the U.S. Air Force, he returned home and married his sweetheart and lifelong love, Mavis Olson, on October 5, 1957, at South Beef River Lutheran Church in rural Osseo. Mavis preceded him in death on April 15, 2006.
Roger attended UW-Whitewater where he earned his B.S. Degree on January 24, 1964. He later earned his M.S. Degree from UW-River Falls on November 22, 1970. For seven years, he worked as a High School English Teacher in the Somerset, WI, School District, where he was instrumental in establishing the first teacher’s union in that district. For the next 16 years, he served as High School Principal and interim District Administrator in Somerset. He was also instrumental in designing, securing funding, and building new schools in both Somerset and in the Hurley School District, where he served as District Administrator for 10 years before retiring to Osseo.
Roger was a member of Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Retired Educator’s Assoc., Wisconsin Retired District Administrator’s Assoc., and the Osseo Lions Club. During his lifetime he frequently served on various church boards, sometimes as President, and numerous other community committees.
Roger is survived by his children, Douglas Myren of St. Paul, MN, Cynthia (Richard) Lund of Osseo and Robert Myren of Osseo; brothers, Gerald (Donna) Myren of Whitehall, Donald Myren of Osseo, Bruce (Susie) Myren of Kingston, WA, and Larry Myren of Onalaska; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mavis, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly Peterson.
Memorial services will be 1:30 pm, Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, 50351 Harmony St., Osseo, WI, 54758. Rev. Terry Lorenz will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Beef River Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Osseo.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a Visitation and Viewing from 2-5 pm, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Schiefelbein Funeral Home, 13507 7th St., Osseo, WI, 54758, and are also welcome to join the family for one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.
