Ruby Constance Spangberg, 98, of Strum, died Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation in Augusta.
Ruby was born January 12, 1920 in rural Strum to Mattias and Julia (Ronglien) Amundson.
Ruby married Forrest Spangberg on April 3, 1942 in Pigeon Falls. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1960.
Ruby attended UW-Eau Claire where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. After teaching 4th grade in Strum for several years she joined the Trempealeau County Department of Social Services as a case worker. She retired in 1982 after 20 years of service with the county.
Ruby served as Village President of Strum from 1983 until 2001. During her term as president she was instrumental in developing the Strum Recycling Center, the dredging of Crystal Lake and the upgrading of the main street of Strum.
Ruby is survived by her daughter Corliss (Charles) Sharf of Baldwin, NY; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Spangberg of Wausau; four grandchildren, Brian (Diane) Spangberg of Rib Mountain, Andrew (Nicole Olson) Spangberg of Wausau, Jennifer (Andrew) Adler of Merrick, NY and Deborah (Samuel Garcia) Sharf of Baldwin, NY; seven great grandchildren, Miranda Spangberg, Erich Spangberg, Zachary Comfort, Isaac Comfort, Daniel Waring, David Waring and Max Adler; one sister, Mildred Finstad of Augusta.
In addition to her husband Forrest, she was preceded in death by her son Christian, infant daughter Sandra Lane, sister Viola Gunderson, brothers, Clayton Amundson and Edmund Amundson.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating. Burial will follow in West Beef River Lutheran Cemetery, rural Strum.
Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum.
