Thunder take hard hit from Orioles

by Bridget Cooke

Coming off a stunning win at Cadott before Thanksgiving, the Osseo-Fairchild girls basketball team took a hard hit by conference opponent Stanley-Boyd on Thursday, Dec. 4 on their own home court.

Even with senior Wynonah Filla putting down a whopping 25 total points for the night, the Thunder were unable to take down the Orioles. In a face off with Stanley-Boyd’s own Jamie Reit, the players lost out to a top scorer with 32 points and a teammate who netted 16 of her own.

Despite the Orioles taking a 15-11 lead over the home team by the end of the first quarter, the Thunder kept fighting. However, the Orioles were just warming up and exploded out of the gate with a 26-17 cap over the Thunder to make it a 41-28 game. It was all over from there as O-F struggled just to tie scoring in the final two quarters, with the Orioles edging their points over the Thunder in an 18-16 success in the last minutes of the game.

The Thunder’s Amanda Pederson and Brooke Freitag followed Filla with a tied total of seven points while Katie Barney and Megan Steinke each had six points for the Thunder.

Next Osseo-Fairchild will travel to Altoona, Friday, Dec. 12 to take on the Railroaders with a  7:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off.
