Sheila Schmitt
Sheila Schmitt, of Williston ND passed away at her parents’ home in Glendive, MT, July 6th 2019 at the age of 46 years old, surrounded by close family, succumbing to metastatic breast cancer after a brave, six-year fight.
Sheila Schmitt is survived by her parents Jerome and Louella Schmitt of Glendive, MT, her husband Matthew Schonert of Williston, ND, her son Anthony Mann of Williston, ND, Anthony’s significant other Sally Selensky, her son Christopher Mann of Williston, ND, her daughter-in-law Jenna Mann, her sister Sherry Schmitt-Newman, Brother-in-law Darren Newman, of Lake Elmo, MN, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Sheila Schmitt was born on December 31st, 1972 in Wabasha, MN. Sheila grew up in Durand, WI, where she graduated from Durand High School in 1991. She married Michael Mann in 1991 who enlisted in the Navy. Sheila moved to Chicago, then San Diego after high school where her first husband was stationed. Sheila’s two children, twin boys, were born in 1995, in San Diego, CA, where they were raised until they were 2 years old. She and her family then moved to Glendive, MT, where Sheila worked for Dawson County Veterinary Clinic. In 2004 she moved to her final home in Williston, ND. Sheila separated from her first husband in 2007, and in 2008 Sheila welcomed her second husband Matthew Schonert into her family, whom she considered her soul mate for the last 12 years of her life.
Sheila was a kind, passionate, and funny person, described by many as the light of their day. She worked for Williston Public Schools since 2007, and as the head secretary of Williston Middle School since 2008. Sheila had an especial passion for music and nature. Her favorite past times were listening to music, playing music trivia, camping and sightseeing tours through Nature and National Parks, especially Yellowstone, which Sheila called her favorite place in the world. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Sheila’s wishes were for a private close-family viewing only, without a funeral service, after which she was cremated. Sheila and her family would like to thank all who helped support Sheila through her fight, especially her co-workers of Williston Public Schools who provided numerous fundraisers, the nursing staff of the Leonard P Nelson Cancer Center, her oncologist Dr. Shin Yin Lee, and the Hospice team of Glendive Medical Center.
