Carmen Alice Seipel

Carmen Alice Seipel, age 89, of Red Wing, MN, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025. Carmen was born March 4, 1936, at home in Plum City, Wisconsin, to Frank and Rosanna (Taylor) Krings. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Elmwood High School in 1954. She attended the University of Wisconsin - Stout, majoring in Dietetics, before marrying Dell Seipel in 1957. They made their home in Milwaukee and eventually purchased a cafe in Maiden Rock and renamed it Car-Dells, where Carmen worked long hours and made many pies as well as friends. Carmen and Dell later divorced, and she moved to Red Wing where she worked 31 years at Red Wing Shoe.
Carmen loved to travel and visited many U.S. states as well as countries in Europe and Central America. She took cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean with her children and grandchildren in her later years.
Carmen enjoyed concerts and the theatre and saw many productions over the years. Education was very important to her, and she was able to see all seven grandchildren graduate from college. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She made quilts for everyone in her family that will be cherished by all.
Carmen was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Red Wing. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary where she volunteered for 25 years in the gift shop and knitted hats for newborns.
Carmen is survived by her four children: Anita (David) Westberg, Jeffrey Seipel, Carla (Gary) Hutter, Christopher (Peggy) Seipel, and Wendy Seipel, daughter-in-law; seven grandchildren: Kelly (Carl) Lehman, Jordan (Jon) Zurek, Taylor (Ryan) Shumaker, Nicholas Seipel, Trevor Hutter, Emma Strusz, and Hailey Seipel; six great-grandchildren: Theodore, Jackson and Olivia Lehman, Ella and Lainey Zurek, and Maverick Strusz. Carmen is also survived by sisters-in-law Ann Krings and Linda Wilson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings: Mary Jane Denny, Norbert Krings, Karlene Johnson, Nolton Krings, Janet and Jean Krings, and Patrick Krings.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 435 W 7th St, Red Wing, MN, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior and a lunch following. Interment will be private at a later date.
