Dixie Louise Myers
Dixie Louise (Breitung) Myers, age 77 of Downsville, Wisconsin passed away on May 12, 2018 at the Red Cedar hospital in Menomonie with her family at her side. Dixie was born March 28th, 1941 and was one of four children. She grew up with her siblings Lavonne, Frayne, and Brenda in Middleton, Michigan with her parents Dale and Cappie Duflo. Dixie was married to Donald “Catfish” Breitung in March of 1957 until his untimely death in 1983. Together they had 8 children; Russell, Diyona, Darla, Jerry, Jaimie, Connie, Lisa and Leila. She worked as a welder at Northern Wisconsin Manufacturing in Pepin, Wisconsin and cooked at the Pepin Hotel on weekends (as if raising seven kids wasn’t enough).
She was Married to Gary Myers in 1984. They had a fun-loving marriage and enjoyed many hobbies together including playing cards/games, traveling, gardening, canning, raising many foster children (some of which they have remained close with), and their four-legged fur babies. They adopted son Jessie in 2001 after fostering him since he was a toddler. They have raised a huge Hosta garden and were active members of a Hosta club.
Dixie enjoyed writing poems, short stories, quilting, bird watching, cooking (she made the BEST homemade pizza EVER!!). Dixie was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her family.
Dixie is survived by sisters Lavonne (Ron) Gilyard and Brenda (Lori) Duflo; children Diyona (Tony) Breitung-Schmillen, Darla Burchard, Jerry Breitung, Connie (Mike) Linhart, Jaimie Breitung, and Lisa (Brian “Chopper”) Erickson, Revae Myers, Eileen Heughins, and Jessie Myers; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Catfish, her son Russell, Infant daughter Leila, her brother Frayne, daughter-in-law Theresa (wife of son Jaimie), and foster son Chris Hanson.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 18, 2018 at Pepin Sportsman Club in Pepin, Wisconsin. Pastor Karna of Immanuel Lutheran Church Pepin will be officiating. Visitation will be held an hour before the service. Luncheon to follow the service.
