Durand City Council discusses new street sweeper purchase
In a regular meeting held December 30, the Durand City Council discussed the purchase of a new street sweeper.
The consent agenda, including minutes from the December 10 regular meeting, and bartender licenses for Annamarie Bauer and Nickolas D. Bauer for Cobblestone Inn & Suites, was approved.
A public hearing for a Class A Liquor License for Todd C. Kunkel Enterprises, Inc., was held. Kunkel appeared before the Council and explained that customers have been requesting liquor sales at the convenience store at 203 W. Prospect Street, and he is looking at having a very small section. The Council approved the license.
Mayor Patrick Milliren wished the Council a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The annual report from tobacco compliance checks came in, and six out of seven locations passed, which Mayor Milliren said was the same as last year.
Mayor Milliren reported he attended a meeting regarding the senior center, and stated the issues are not the City's fight, but the City has a vested interest in keeping the center open.
City Administrator Josh Eggleston reported there is a position in the City that will need to be replaced in the very near future.
Police Chief Stan Ridgeway reported things are going smoothly. The Council approved Ridgeway to attend the 2015 Wisconsin Chiefs Conference February 8-11.
Superintendent Ed Sabelko reported during the December 27 snow storm the wing of the plow truck was caught on the rail on 7th Avenue West and did damage to the plow frame and the truck itself. Sabelko reported he has spoken to Pepin County to have a plow for backup, and the blade will be put on the loader. He said it will be a minimum four to six weeks to have the truck back up and running.
The Council discussed the budgeted purchase of a street sweeper.
Eggleston said he had no objection to a seven-year note, and the City will save on interest if a loan is taken through the general fund. Eggleston said he would run numbers and bring them to the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held January 14 at 6:30 p.m.
