Frederick “Fred” G. Weber

Frederick “Fred” G. Weber, 83, of Mondovi, WI died Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi. He was born July 20, 1940 in Eau Galle, WI; son of Fredrick and Martha Clarice (Flick) Weber. Later, the family moved to Elmwood, and then to Mondovi.
He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1959. Following high school, Fred joined the US Army for a short time. He then joined the Brothers of St. Pius X at De Soto, WI in September of 1961, where he took the name of Brother Joseph Michael. He was invested with the habit of a novice on Oct. 27, 1963. He was assigned to the Colby monastery where he assisted with farm duties. When the brothers disbanded in 1968, Fred returned home to Mondovi.
He was employed by Presto in Eau Claire and later Ashley Furniture in Arcadia. Fred retired in 2004.
Fred loved attending all local high school sports and received an honorary letter from the Mondovi Basketball Team. He also loved going to the Eau Claire Express games and following the Packers and the Brewers. Fred became an avid traveler, enjoying group tours offered by local travel agencies. He always seemed to make new friends everywhere he went. Picking Fred up at the bus was a long experience, as he always needed to say good bye to everyone. My guess is he is introducing himself to a lot of new angel friends in heaven. We’ll miss his smiling face here.
He is survived by his siblings, Carole (John) Fure of Danbury, Mary Jean Brantner of Cottage Grove, MN, Cheri (James) Forster of Eau Claire, Richard (Loree) Weber of Linstrom, MN, and Barry (Carrie) Weber of Mondovi, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Lee Val Brantner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Mondovi. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mondovi.
The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff at American Lutheran Home and St. Croix Hospice for all their kindness towards Fred.
