Howard T. (Tom) Martin

Tom Martin, age 85, of Durand, died August 20, 2024 at the Plum City Care Center after a lengthy battle with Interstitial lung cancer.
Tom was born on June 8, 1939 in Plum City. His parents were Howard A. and Elsie A. (Gfall) Martin. The oldest of two children, he grew up on the family farm near Ono (Grange Hall).
Tom graduated from Plum City High School in 1957. Upon graduation he was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for three years as a Draftsman. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency, stationed in Germany, from 1960- 1963.
After his discharge, he attended Wisconsin State University at River Falls (1963 to 1967). While attending college he worked full-time at Armour & Company in South St. Paul as a Production Foreman. He graduated in 1967 with a B.A. in Mathematics and Business Administration.
He was employed as a Programmer/Analyst by Cargill, Inc. in Minneapolis, from 1967-1969. He spent the next 35 years as a Corporate Recruiter (Head Hunter), recruiting technical and managerial personnel for a wide variety of companies located in the Upper Midwest.
After retiring from the recruiting profession, he worked for several years for Countryside Cooperatives as a truck driver and maintenance man. He then worked several years for Club 10, performing maintenance and repair of the automated pinsetting machines, in addition to, other maintenance duties.
Tom enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, bowling and card playing. Tom was a “handyman” and he could fix and make just about anything. He always had a long list of “projects”.
Tom is survived by his son Michael and daughter Christina, four grandchildren (Calvin, Paula, Jason and Matthew), his sister, M. Zita Stewart, nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Wisconsin. A private burial and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
