John W. “Jack” Komro
John W. “Jack” Komro, age 91 of Durand, died Saturday, February 7, 2026 at River Pines Care Center in Altoona with his family by his side.
Jack came into this world on November 5, 1934 to William and Verena (Kothbauer) Komro. He grew up in the town of Lima and graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1952.
After high school, Jack purchased a 265 acre farm in Lima, rural Pepin County. Jack married Carole Weiss on May 28, 1960 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lima. Jack and Carole started Komro Sales and Service in 1960, which is operated by his family to this day.
Jack was active with Holy Rosary Catholic Church as an usher and committee member. He was a chairman of the Pepin County Farm Management Club, he served on the board of Durand Federal Bank for 15 years, a board member for the Durand Hospital for 10 years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years and a member of the National Guard for 9 years.
Jack enjoyed traveling, golfing and playing cards, especially Cribbage. Most of all, Jack loved spending time with his family and friends.
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carole, children, Bob (Paula) of Durand, Peter (Marla) of Baldwin, Anthony (Becky) of Wheaton, IL, Julie (Mike) Serum of Eau Claire and Nickolas (Marianne) of Menomonie, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, siblings, Patricia Prissel of Altoona, William (Pat) Jr. of Eau Claire, Jim (Millie) of Indianapolis, IN, Don (Joe) of Golden Valley, MN, and Robert (Roberta) of Hayward, brother-in-law, Mike Peterson of Lexington, SC, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Lorriane Komro and siblings, Cindy Peterson, Dorothy Forsythe, Richard and Jerry.
Memorial Mass will be 11:30AM Friday, February 13, 2026 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church-Lima in Durand with Rev. Emmanuel Asamoah-Bekoe. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Durand American Legion Post #186 of Durand. Visitation will be from 9:30AM until the time of services at the church on Friday.
Memorials are preferred in Jack’s name to the Holy Rosary Catholic School in Lima.
