Kathleen Mary Poeschl

Kathleen Mary Poeschl Ellertson—”Sis” to her family, “Kay” to her friends and “Mimi” to her Great Grandchildren—passed away at Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the age of 91.
Born on December 13, 1925 in Durand, Wisconsin, Sis was the first daughter of Henry (Hank) Poeschl and Mary (Risler) Poeschl. Her brothers, Ralph and Edward preceded her in death and she is survived by siblings Virginia (Werner), Raymond and Fern (Reimer).
Sis married Stanley Ellertson in 1947. They settled in Caledonia, Wisconsin where she cared for her daughter Mary Lou (Bell), her adopted son Don Ellertson, and several foster children, including Alex Merch, Jeff Merath, Tammy Merath and others.
A woman of indomitable spirit, Sis gave generously of her time, talent and treasure. She was a lifelong advocate for peace, justice and equality. She was steadfast in her commitment to family and always ready to lend support, guidance and a helping hand when she was needed.
She will be missed and remembered by those whose lives she touched including her siblings and children, her grandchildren Katie (Dave) Miller, Jason (Meri) Bell, and Justin Ellertson and great-grandchildren Beth and Sydney (Miller) and Dominic and Baylee (Bell) and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Durand, Saturday, May 27, 10:30 A.M. followed by a grave side service at 11:00. Friends and family are invited to share memories and a light lunch at the church after the service. An informal gathering will continue that evening at Round Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Assumption at 911 W Prospect St. Durand, WI 54736 would be appreciated.
