Marvin A. Gilles
Marvin A. Gilles age 93 of Plum City, died Saturday March 7, 2015 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.
Marvin was born September 9, 1921 to Paul J. and Lousia (Roth) Gilles, the 7th of 13 children, on a farm a few miles outside the Village of Plum City. Marvin’s three little sisters remain of the 13.
After attending the Gilles School, Marvin completed his school days at the newly constructed St. John the Baptist Catholic School in 1933. Marvin married Mina Sweeney on November 10, 1942 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. After marriage they farmed in and around Plum City all their lives. They raised five children on the farm on the East Hill outside Plum City. Marvin & Mina moved from their farm into Plum City in 2008. Mina passed away in 2011. She would have been 88 yrs. Old and they would have been married 69 years, that November.
Marvin and Mina traveled some, including two trips to California to visit relatives. Lots of fishing trips “Up North”, with good friends. Much fishing, card playing, the tipping of the beer can. What fun they had! Marvin enjoyed visits from his kids, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Marvin would have been 94 this September and was still an excellent euchre player.
Marvin always caught the first fish and he always knew exactly what cards you were holding in your hand. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Marvin is survived by two daughters, Marcia (John) Paulbick of St. Paul, MN; Madrene (Neil) Nitzkowski of Bella Vista, AR, two sons, Kent (Diane) of Plum City, Brad of Catherdral City, CA; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one on the way; three sisters, Janette Sass, Marie Glaus and Eva Storm.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Mina, a son Scott, two great grandsons, Keegan and Garrett Roach, four brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday March 14, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plum City with Rev. Paul Czerwonka officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
