Ruthann Hovde

Ruthann Hovde passed away Wednesday, August 17 at the Elmwood Care Center. She was 84.
She was the daughter of Pete and Lena Newberg. Ruthann attended the Plum City school system until she graduated in 1950. In September of 1950, she married Robert Hovde. She is survived by her sons Doug and Mike, and her cousin Bill Newberg.
Ruthann was an avid reader, a world class coffee drinker, a great cook and collector of cookbooks, and greatly enjoyed social events with the Clucks. She lived her entire life in Plum City. She worked at the Plum City Post Office, then was co-owner of Hovde’s Fairway Foods for 33 years and followed that with 8 years at the Elmwood Care Center before retiring.
Ruthann was one of the founders of the Plum City Library and its first President—a post she held until she retired from the position in 1998. She was also one of the authors of the historical book about Plum City’s early days called LITTLE VILLAGE IN THE BIG WOODS, an endeavor that brought her a great deal of pride and satisfaction.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 28 from 1-4 pm at Molly’s Restaurant in Plum City. A private graveside service will be held at a later date with Rev. Dan Richardson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Plum City Library.
