Vernon W. Hince

Vernon William Hince (87) of Pepin, WI died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand, WI. He was born on March 7, 1928 the second child of William F. and Ranetta A. (Peters) Hince.
Vernon was raised and worked the dairy farm in Frankfort Township, Pepin County that he called home for 63 years. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin. Vernon attended Farm Hill School, a one room school in Frankfort Township. On October 5th, 1948 he married LaVerle Seyffer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin. They lived and raised their family on the family farm until 1991 when they moved to the village of Pepin.
He was a hard working man, who could strike up a conversation with a total stranger with no problem. That was one of the reasons he enjoyed his volunteer driving for Pepin County so much. His driving was one of the things that kept him busy after retirement besides helping his sons on the farm until his health prevented him from doing the things he loved.
Vernon enjoyed fishing, and traveling with his wife, family and friends. They traveled to almost every US state and Canada. The most adventurous was a camping trip to Alaska. He enjoyed playing dart ball with his church’s team and for a time was captain of that team. Boards and committees he served on over the years include, church council, Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service, Associated Milk Producers Inc., Farm and Home Administration and the Dairy Heard Improvement Association.
Vernon was a very talented man. He was very good at fixing things, machinery, buildings and small engines. He was always tinkering with something. Most of all he had a strong sense of family and loved family get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, LaVerle Hince of Pepin, WI; children, Beverly (Larry) Anderson of Durand, WI; Duane (Bonnie J. McKnight) Hince, LaVonne Hince, Lenis Hince, all of Pepin, WI, Elaine (Edward) Hartung of Menomonie, WI; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Smith of Centuria, WI, Joann (William) Tape of St. Louis Park, MN; sister-in-law, Janice Hince of Pepin, WI; several step grand and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Galen; an infant granddaughter, Courtney Hince; his parents; sister, Evelyn Hince; brother, Arnold Hince; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Hince; brother-in-law, James E. Smith; step granddaughter, Jodi Scheitel.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin, WI with Pastor Karna Marks officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin, WI. Visitation was held Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
