Melvin Grotjahn

Melvin Herman Grotjahn, 85, of Alma, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the American Lutheran Home, in Mondovi.
He was born June 30, 1930, on the family farm on the Alma Bluff, son of Christian and Algundia (Gross) Grotjahn.
He attended Mill Creek School and worked on the family farm. In 1956, he started working as a well driller and continued working on the family farm. He worked for Kochendorfer, then with Frank Fisher at Fisher Well Drilling. Following Frank’s death in 1969, Melvin purchased the business and changed the name to Grotjahn Well Service, Welding and Pump Service. Melvin enjoyed farming, deer hunting and visiting with the neighbors.
Melvin is survived by one sister, Mary Lou Collins of Buffalo City; several nieces; a nephew; great-nephews, a great-niece and a great-great niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Grotjahn, Frances Draughn; brothers, Wallace and Kenneth Grotjahn; infant brother, Glen; infant sister, Lucille.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, at Lyster Lutheran Church, rural Nelson, with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial was in at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, in Cream.
