Bulldogs travel to Rochester for the season opener
The Girl’s soccer team traveled to Rochester on Saturday, August 29th, to face the section powerhouse Lourdes Eagles. The Eagles always field a very strong team and they proved tonight that they will again be a force to be reckon with. The Bulldogs started strong and put pressure on the Lourdes Defense, but the Lourdes goalie was able to keep a clean sheet. The Lourdes Eagles opened the scoring with a goal late in the first half of a free kick from the right side. 1-0 was the half time score. But the Bulldogs are a team which never gives up. The defense around Isabel Schultz kept the Eagles at bay and the Midfielders started to create more chances. Abby Schultz, Tia Standinger as well as Jenna Wolf got into the game better and better. But unfortunately, when the Bulldogs were pressing for the equalizer, the Eagles were the ones who capitalized and scored another goal of a corner kick. But Mikayla McCullough scored on a corner kick and was able to get the Bulldogs on the board. Again, it seemed that the Bulldogs were closer to the equalizer than Lourdes to another goal, when it was the Lourdes Eagles to score of a break away. The score was now 3-1 in favor of the Lourdes Eagles. The final 15 minutes of the game saw the Bulldogs pressing hard to score again, but the score stood at the end of 80 minutes. Mikayla Walkes had 11 saves, one of them a penalty kick, that she perfectly saved with a perfect dive. MVP for the game was Chloe Holtz. She worked tirelessly on the right side and was aggressive on offense as well as defense. Overall, despite the final score, the Bulldogs played a promising season opener. They worked hard as a team and they did not stop until the final whistle. The next game is against the Byron Bears.
