Caroline Mary Ann Berg

Caroline Mary Ann Berg, 97, of Plainview, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. She was born on September 8, 1928, in Hammond, Minnesota to Leo and Regina (Tri) Hofschulte. She attended country school in Bremen. After Caroline finished school, she stayed at home and helped her folks and helped care for her brother during the summertime.
On October 5, 1949, Caroline married Carl Berg, they were blessed with 30 plus years of marriage and with two daughters and a son. Carl passed away on May 29, 1980.
Caroline worked various jobs over the years at Kings Food Center, Bates Variety Store, and was a cook at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Plainview for 25 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church where she served as a Minister of Communion, was a member of the Catholic Daughters for 39 years and served as a financial secretary for Catholic Daughters for 4 years. Caroline was also a member of the Plainview American Legion Auxiliary for 47 years.
Caroline enjoyed spending time gardening, and enjoyed sewing, doing beautiful embroidery work, and crocheting, which she shared with her family. She especially loved spending time with her family, and always welcomed having her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as overnight guests. Caroline felt very blessed to share her time with her family and friends.
Caroline is survived by her children, Debra (Arlen) O’Brien of Bricelyn, MN, Connie (David) O’Brien of Pine Island, and David (LeLa) Berg of West Concord; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hofschulte of Millville and Delores Irmscher of Minnesota City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Lloyd Hofschulte, and a step-granddaughter, Angela.
The Funeral Mass for Caroline will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Tojy Jose officiating. The burial will follow the service at St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery in Plainview. Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.
