Donald Henry Donlinger

Donald Henry Donlinger, 87, of Millville, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health Center – Lake City Nursing Home in Lake City. He was born January 20, 1934 in Whitewater Valley in Winona County, to Leo and Agnes (Stroot) Donlinger. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska.

Don attended country school in the Valley and later attended Plainview High School until 1951, and graduated from St. Casimir’s High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1952. He then attended St. Mary’s College in Winona from 1952 - 1954 where he played basketball and baseball. In January 1955 he joined the US Army and was a radio teletype communicator. He served in Germany mostly on the Czechoslovakian border and was honorably discharged in December of 1956. Don then attended the U of M from 1957 – 1959 and worked at a financial institution for three years before returning to Millville. Don and his brothers innovated much of todays growing and marketing of vegetable techniques. He was a member of the Millville Valley Legion Post #579.

Don was a true extrovert and enjoyed meeting and conversing with most anyone. He had a great compassion for good people and was always concerned about how young people were treated. Never married Don had a loving relationship with Jean Rabe Springer for 45 + years and was extremely close to her daughters Janalee Cooper and Janeen Kappauf and their families.

Don is survived by his special friend, Jean Springer of Millville; two sisters, Charlotte (Richard) Spurck of Rochester and Kathleen Blattner of Millville; three brothers, Kenneth (Rita) Dondlinger of Kellogg, James Donlinger, and Dale (Judy) Donlinger both of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Leo, Jr., Richard, Robert, and Jack, and a sister Shirley.

A walk-through visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – West Albany in rural Millville with Father Matthew Fasnacht officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City, with Military Rites by the Millville Valley Legion Post #579. Masks are required and please practice social distancing.
