Evelyn (Evie) Elaine Spring

Evelyn (Evie) Elaine Spring, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at Samaritan Bethany care facility in Rochester, Minnesota, due to complications of cancer on November 3, 2020.
Evelyn was born in Saint Charles, Minnesota, on July 25, 1927, to Charles and Maude (Turner) LaRocque. Evelyn graduated high school from Elgin in 1946. Following WW II, she married Laurel Louis Spring on September 14, 1948, and they farmed in Fairwater Valley in Elba, Viola, and Elgin, before settling to live in the village of Elgin. During that time, they had three children Michael Louis, Rickey Laurel, and Timothy Charles Spring. For over 60 years she loved to bake, cook, and can garden produce. She carried on these traditions with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn worked for the United States Postal Service for 28 years as a postal clerk, before her retirement in 1995. Evelyn was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Elgin and later in Plainview. Evelyn was the organist at UMC for over 45 years. She played many duets with her close friend, Phyllis Maercklein, and also sang for weddings, funerals and church services. Music was an important part of her life, and one that she passed on to her family. Evelyn loved to travel on tour bus trips and was able to see many scenic places in the country. She will be remembered for her kindness, friendship, and most of all, love of family.
Evelyn is survived by Tim, Carol, and grandchildren Samuel and Dicey Spring of Minnesota City; grandchildren, Deanna (Spring), Charlie, great grandchildren Jeana, Megan, and Tyler Constans of Eyota; Jennifer (Spring), Butch, great grandchildren Nicholas and MaKenna Pearson of Pequot Lakes; Richard (Lori) Spring of Millville, and grandchildren Michael and Katie Spring and great-grandchild Madelyn of Eyota, Haley (Spring) and Ryan Grobe of St. Charles; Michelle (Spring), Steve and great-grandchildren Tanner and Spencer Burton of Stewartville, Janeal (Spring) and great-grandchild Grayson Lee of Appleton, WI; Darin Spring of St. Paul; Sharon (Spring) and Jeremy Heyer of Rochester; and Crystal Spring of Minneapolis. Evelyn is also survived by nephews, Tom and Susan Holst of Cottage Grove, Randy and Susan Holst of Eden Prairie; Dan and Colleen Holst of Shakopee; Steve and Patty Holst of Sebring, FL; William and Melanie Holst of Plainview; Gerald Simon of Elba, and Leo Simon in Caledonia, and niece, Sharon (Kellam) Haack of Plainview.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Sonny, her parents, sons Michael and Rick, daughter-in-law Jean; sisters, Darlene (LaRocque) Holst, infant Dorothy Gene LaRocque, Elva LaRocque, and Violet (Kellam) Simon; and brothers, Clyde LaRocque, Ardell LaRocque, and Valentine Kellam; nephew, Peter Holst.
The family would like to thank Pastors Cheryl Nymann and Deanna Woodward for pastoral support, and friends, Phyllis Maercklein and Sharon Krenzke for assisting in caregiving.
Funeral service is Friday, November 6, 2:00 pm at Peace United Methodist Church, Elgin, with Pastor Cheryl Nymann officiating. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed.
