James (Jim) David Klassen

n, 81, of Plainview, MN died peacefully at his home June 25th, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 10th, 1943 to Felix and Elda (Boehlke) Klassen, Jim started his life of farming at an early age. As a child, he was milking cows, raising pigs, sheep and horses alongside his siblings. As he grew older, he worked the land alongside his oldest brother, Bob. Jim married his wife, Jane (Webster) on April 4th, 1964 where they started their own family and farm. Together they lived on their farm for 60 years where they raised their 3 children. Jim served on the Highland Township Board, Saddle Club and Tractor Club along with involving his children in 4-H. He was a dedicated husband, father and farmer.
Jim always enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. With his friends, cocktails were shared along with many hours of laughter at their weekly card club. In his younger days, Jim also enjoyed playing volleyball or softball for many years and being a sheriff deputy at Midway close to his home. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the card games he played as a child and did not feel bad beating his family in cards and smiled while taking all of their money. He enjoyed watching his family grow and he loved them very much. He wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to his grandchildren, and they always knew they were loved. He was never without a smile on his face when talking about them. He will be deeply missed.
Jim battled his health for many years, but his strength through it all was inspiring. Sometimes spending weddings, birthdays, or holidays in the hospital, but persevering through it all to make his way home. He spent his last days in his favorite chair at home saying hello to every family or friend who stopped by.
He is survived by his wife Jane, three children, Sherri (Jeff) Norton, Brenda (Tony) Burke, and Jason (Tara) Klassen, all of rural Plainview. Grandchildren, Anton, McKenzie, McCaleb, Tyler, Nolan, Morgan, Veda and Lincoln, and his great-grandchildren, Taylee, Chloe, Marshall, Tucker, Charlotte, Greta, Stevie, Walker, Libbie, Violet and Jett. He also loved his inherited daughter, Angie (Johnson) Connelly.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents, siblings and beautiful John Deere tractors.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 2, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. The burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. A visitation was held Monday, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
