Joan Elloise (Stoltz) Mussell

Joan Elloise (Stoltz) Mussell, 90, of Plainview died May 4th,2020 at her home surrounded by the love of family.
Joan was born on Father’s Day June 16th, 1929 to Sidney and Esther (Brueske)Stoltz. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plainview, MN. She attended country school and Immanuel Lutheran Parochial school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1947.
On June 4th, 1949 she married Norman Mussell. Their union of 51 years was blessed with nine children. They lived and worked on the family farm in rural Plainview. In addition to being a farm wife and mother, Joan was very active in her church. She served on a variety of church committees and taught release time.
Joan was employed at Lakeside foods from 1963 -1995. She started as a floor lady and retired as a supervisor after 32 years. She was quite the handy woman, hanging wallpaper, serving as the parochial school cook for a year, and driving school bus for the Plainview schools.
Probably her greatest love outside of her family was her love of singing. Known for her beautiful voice, she sang in high school choirs, church choirs and was the soloist for many funerals and weddings.
Asked about her major accomplishments she responded she was proud of the fact she raised nine children to adulthood and successful lives of their own.
Joan is survived by her children: Genella (Kathy Roberts) Mussell of Zumbrota, Janet Kuchera of St Charles. Patricia (Randy) Belina, Watertown, NY, Norma (Jerry Wollenberg) Rochester, Michal Ann Mussell, Plainview, August (Lori) Mussell, Buffalo, MN, David (Linda) Mussell, St Charles, Sarah Dohrn, Plainview and Laura (Kevin) Mulholland, Rochester. She deeply loved her 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother Allyn(Frieda) Stoltz and Sister-in-law Ellen (Warren) Stoltz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman, her brothers Ralph, Warren and Richard Stoltz, her sister Judith Pretzer and her grandson Karl Kuchera.
A thank you to Mayo Hospice for their brief, but helpful care. Also thanks to Wabasha Public Health and Omega care services who through their support, Joan was able to stay in her home.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plainview, Minnesota.
There will be a private graveside service. A Celebration of Life, with lots of music will held later.
Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview is assisting the family with the arrangements.
