John William Lewis

John William Lewis, 88, of Lake City passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Methodist Campus, surrounded by his family. He was born May 24, 1933, in Weaver, MN to William and Florence (Wentworth) Lewis. He attended elementary school in rural Plainview Schools and graduated in 1952 from Plainview High School. He married Marie Walters on May 13, 1961, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.

After marriage they lived in Plainview and Elba moving to the Lake City area in 1964. John was employed at DiAcro for 18 years, and also did body work for Orville Carstens & Herron Chevrolet in Lake City. John enjoyed raising and boarding horses, and his Donkey Lena. He also operated a food stand “John’s Temptations” for many years. John loved to spend time tinkering in the garage(MacGyver); and was a die-hard Minnesota Twins fan. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids and enjoyed following them in all their school activities. One of John’s favorites during the Christmas season was playing “Santa Claus” for 35 years along with his wife Marie as Mrs. Claus for family and many businesses and organizations in the area.

John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Lewis of Lake City; daughters, Kay Marie (Donald) Hanson and Karen (Guy) Turnbell, sons, Keith (Ann) Lewis of Lake City, and Kevin Lewis (deceased); 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Ellringer of Plainview, two brothers, George (Mary) Lewis of Florida, and Donald Lewis of Plainview. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd, and son Kevin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Pastor Steven Frentz officiating. Burial will follow the service at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Tuesday.
