Kathleen “Kay” Mary Blattner

Kathleen “Kay” Mary Blattner, 84, of rural Millville, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, with her family by her side. She was born on July 17, 1940, in Winona County to Leo and Agnes (Stroot) Donlinger. Kay grew up attending rural elementary schools and graduated in 1958 from Lourdes High School in Rochester. On October 21, 1961, she married Lloyd Blattner, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in West Albany, and they enjoyed 60 years together before his passing on January 18, 2021.
Kay spent her lifetime as a resident of Southeastern Minnesota. Helping on the farm and raising their three children. Kay’s life was centered around her family. She showed her love by preparing food, especially her highly requested potato salad and homemade buns. Kay made holidays memorable by creating a warm and loving home where everyone was welcome. She followed all of her grandkids playing sports for years and made many trips in the van. Kay also enjoyed many activities including playing softball, cards, canning, watching sports on tv, going on day trips with her daughters Michelle and Marcia, and gardening especially her flowers “they make me happy”. Her son Mike and family will also be forever grateful to mom for being a part of Produce Plus over the years. Kay had a very strong faith, lived her life for God, and loved her church family at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Kay is survived by her children, Michelle Blattner of Rochester, Michael (Kristi) Blattner of Eyota, and Marcia (James) Hartman of Rochester; five grandchildren, Derrik (Lisa), Ryan (Marit), Brett, Brandi, and Blake; two great-grandchildren, Lucy and Emma; and one brother Ken Dondlinger of Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and seven brothers.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West Albany in rural Millville with Father Thé Hoang officiating. The burial followed the service in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in West Albany. A visitation for friends and family was held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
