Lester Clarence Benike

Lester Clarence Benike, 90, of Elgin died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
Les was born April 9, 1930 to Clarence and Mildred (Tippe) Benike at home on their farm near Elgin. Les graduated from Elgin High School in 1947. He married Suzanne Richardson on April 28, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elgin.
Les and Suzi ran a dairy operation, raised five children and lived their entire 69 plus years on the family farm. Les was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin and served many years on the Elgin Creamery Board. In retirement, Les spent summers tending his vegetable gardens, and was always happy to share their abundance and his talents with family and friends.
Les is survived by his children, Karen (Greg) Haugen, Hudson, WI., Don (Sheryl) Benike, Elgin, Diann (John) Thompson, Afton, Kristine (Todd) Hugstad, Elgin, David Benike, Elba; 18 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanne, his parents and his sister Annie, and his brother-in-law Fory Walters.
The family would like to thank the wonderful Mayo Hospice team, especially Amy, Danielle, Kim and Shelli, who made it possible to care for him at home for many weeks. The family also thanks Pastor Bramstedt for his many visits.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 16, 12 Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin with Pastor Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Covid-19 restrictions will be followed and face masks are required.
