Lucille Rose Meyer

Lucille Rose Meyer, 95, of Wabasha, Minnesota and formerly of Theilman, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Gunderson St. Elizabeth Care Center in Wabasha.
She was born on March 1, 1930, in Lake City, Minnesota, to Frank and Agnes (Kennebeck) Russell.
Lucille attended Wabasha County School District # 6 through the 8th grade and graduated from the Mary E. McCahill Institute in Lake City on May 28, 1948. Following high school, she worked at Lake City Hospital as a nurse’s aide until her marriage to Hilary “Bud” Meyer on October 6, 1951, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City. Together, they raised eight children, of whom they were very proud.
After marriage Lucille worked as an Avon Lady, serving many rural women in Wabasha County, and also at the Plainview Canning Factory. Later, she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and proudly served as Postmaster of the Theilman Post Office for 23 years until her retirement on July 31, 1992 – a role she cherished.
Lucille enjoyed spending time cross-stitching baby quilts for her grandchildren, going to auctions and garage sales with Bud, watching Molly B every Saturday night, listening to polka music and dancing, and an occasional pull tab. She loved decorating and entertaining her family during the holidays. Lucille especially loved celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and was honored to serve twice as Grand Marshal of the Wabasha Parade.
She was an expert baker, known for her delicious bread and chocolate chip cookies. Lucille also enjoyed canning chickens, vegetables from her garden, and a variety of fruits so her family could enjoy them year-round. Over the years, she had several dogs, but “Snicker” was her last. She also had a beloved pet chicken “Chickie” and “Henrietta” who brought back fond memories of her childhood on the family farm in rural Lake City.
Lucille often reminisced about growing up on the farm and playing in the Russell Woods. Her heart always remained there – with that little girl who loved her past.
Lucille is survived by her children, Nancy Meyer Lehman of Waseca, Russell (Darlene) Meyer, Sandy (Roger) Wilson, Randy (Ann) Meyer all of Theilman, Karen (Jeff) Hansen of Wabasha, Deb (Mike) Schafer of Lake City, Michael (Dana) Meyer of Theilman, and Tammy (Paul) Wobbe of Wabasha; 24 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren (including three sets of twins); and one sister, Shirley Roemer of Glasgow, Kentucky.
Lucille was also very proud of her Godchildren: David Klees, Paulette Klees, Gary Russell, Pamela Short, Lisa Sylvester, Tom Wills, and Gerard “King” Marking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 55 years, Hilary “Bud” Meyer; and five siblings.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Thé Hoang and Father James Russell officiating. The burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Theilman.
