Marian Miller

Marian E. Miller, 94, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. Marian was born September 13, 1926, in Wabasha to John and Mary (Tushaus) Meyer. She attended school in Kellogg and Conception and was a life-long resident of Plainview. Marian worked in the maternity ward at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Wabasha until she married Fred Miller on October 16, 1952. Following their marriage, Marian and Fred moved to Wisconsin to work on a farm and in 1955, they moved to Plainview where they raised their seven children.

Marian and Fred enjoyed many family camping trips in their pop-up camper as well as many fishing adventures. When Fred passed away suddenly in 1972, she gathered her children in a big group hug and said “If we stay together, we will get through this.” Through Marian’s perseverance and resolve she continued to press upon her children the value of family. Her love of gardening helped to provide for her family and gave her great joy. Her beautiful flowerbeds were enjoyed by many. While the kids were growing up, she worked part-time at Piper Hills Golf Club as a cook. Later, she went to work at the Plainview School and then Hillcrest Care Center until her retirement. Through all the years Marian always relied on the strength of her faith to get her through life’s challenges.

Marian was an active member of St. Joachim Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters in Plainview. She delivered Meals on Wheels to local seniors and provided care to those in need.

Survivors include her children: Marilyn (Ron) Papenfus of Dodge Center, Alice (Nick) Haag of Lewiston, Mike (Wendy) Miller of St. Charles, Joan (Pete) Wagner of Millville, Joe (Cindy) Miller of Rochester, Duane (Jamie) Miller of Plainview, and Chris (Mark) Sims of Eau Claire, WI, 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren (with one more arriving soon), and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Meyer and Yvonne Meyer. She was preceded in death by her husband (Fred) in 1972, her parents John and Mary Meyer, brothers Leo, Lawrence, and Vince Meyer, and father and mother-in-law Fred and Rosalie Miller.
