Michael “Ohmer” Allen Ohm

Michael “Ohmer” Allen Ohm, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, December 15, 2022. He was born April 29, 1963, in Wabasha to James and Ruth (Rahman) Ohm. Mike was the oldest of four children and grew up on a farm outside of Millville. He attended Plainview Community Schools graduating in 1981. While in high school he participated in football, basketball, and baseball.
Michael lived his lifetime in the Plainview, Elgin, and Millville areas. He continued to help on the farm after graduation with the all the farming and milking cows and still found time to bartend and became the manager of the Palace Bar and Out of Bounds Bar both in Elgin. Mike also worked as a carpet installer and for Orkin. He currently was employed as a Rural Mail Carrier for the US Postal Service out of Plainview and Elgin.
Michael had a great love for sports throughout his life, he coached junior high baseball at Plainview school from 1987 – 1989, and then became the head coach for baseball at Elgin-Millville School from 1989 – 2006. In 2002 Mike was voted coach of the year. Michael continued to playing ball only not baseball he played softball on the Macken Plumbing and Johnny Marshmen’s Saloon Co-ed Softball team as well as on a slow pitch softball team known as “The James Gang” which won the State Title in 1983 and was coached by his father James.
Michael is survived by his son, Cole Muenkel of Faribault; his parents Jim and Ruth Ohm of Millville; a sister, Julie (James) Grobe of Millville; and two brothers, Eric Ohm of Elgin, and Jamie Ohm of Elba. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Plainview with Pastor Bob Blanshan officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Elgin Cemetery. A visitation was held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
