The funeral service for Michael Campion will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Simpson, MN, with Military Honors.
Michael Daniel Campion, 88, of Plainview, passed away Monday morning, February 5, 2018, at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. He was born October 25, 1929, in Rochester to Daniel and Clara (Ziltz) Campion. He attended school in Rochester graduating from Rochester High School. After high school, he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Blenny Submarine. On May 23, 1953, he married Dorothy McGovern at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rochester.
Michael worked as a union plumber in Rochester and surrounding areas for 40 years. He also coached boxers in Rochester. Michael was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed tying flies. He also enjoyed square dancing with the ROC8’s. He was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Campion of Plainview; a daughter, Patty Jo (Joe) Taubel of Alma, WI; and two sons, Dan (Mary) Campion and Tim Campion both of Rochester; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Patrick; two sisters, Patricia Lindholm and Kitty Halligan.
Friends and family may visit from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A KC Prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
