Norman H. Marx

Norbert H. Marx, age 90, of Wabasha, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha. He was born on the Marx family farm in Pepin Township of Wabasha County, the son of Mathias and Bertha (Mars) Marx. He was a graduate of St. Felix High School. He farmed on Pepin Hill as well as working as an insurance agent for Gillford Mutual Insurance for 52 years. He served the organization as president for a period of time. Norbert also worked for Big Jo Flour in Wabasha from 1968-1971. He married Rachel Holmstadt November 7, 1946 at St. Felix Catholic Church. Rachel died April 24, 2001.
He was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and a member of St. Joseph’s Society of Catholic United Financial. He was also a member of the Pepin Hill Farmers Club. He enjoyed playing cards, bird watching and the many family picnics. In his earlier years he liked playing softball on Pepin Hill.
Norbert is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Norbert and Rosemary Marx, Elgin, MN, Joel Marx (Betsy Agin), Wabasha, MN, James and Chris Marx, Rosemount, MN; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Urabe, Richfield, MN, Michelle and Joe Heroux;12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Marx, Wabasha, MN; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Marx, daughter, Patricia Marx, grandson, Ahren Urabe, brothers, Ivan, Paul, Henry and Walter Marx and sister, Irene Trinkes.
A funeral Mass was offered on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Monsignors Thomas Cook and Robert Meyer officiating. Interment was in St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ryan Marx, Emily Heroux, Chad Marx, Cara Urabe-Rasoul, Dustin Marx and Mandy Robbins. Honorary bearers were Kristina Ebert, Ethan Heroux, Ashley Scheel, Kelsey Marx and Cami Marx. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Sunday from 4-8pm at which time a prayer service was held and they may call at the church on Monday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to St. Felix School, 130 3rd St. E. Wabasha, MN 55981. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
