Plainview died peacefully at Parkside Elder Care on Feb. 26, 2018. Irene's family is thankful her daughter, Laurie and granddaughter Joy were at her side.  Irene's family is appreciative of the care and love she received at Parkside.
Irene was born Nov. 3, 1932 to Thomas and Agnes Wagner McGrath in Zumbro Township, Wabasha County, MN. She married Benjamin E. Marshman of Plainview Township on Sept. 3, 1952.  Ben and Irene farmed the Marshman family farms together for 60 years.  Starting in the late 1960’s, Irene started working at the Elba Co-op Creamery as the bookkeeper retiring in the mid 90’s. She was a devoted member of St. Joachim Catholic Church, Plainview. Irene was a religion teacher, an active member of the Catholic Daughters, Adult Choir, Ministers of Care, and the liturgy decorating committee.
Irene was a very active lady. She played softball, belonged to a bowling team, and enjoyed playing golf with her lady friends on Thursday’s at Piper Hills. She liked to knit sweaters, was an avid reader of books, and took many fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. Irene was a great cook and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. The family was an important part of Irene’s life. She planned many family gatherings and surrounded herself as often as she could with her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her children: LouAnn Marshman (Neil Frank), Maplewood, MN; Alan Marshman, Plainview; Jon Marshman, Plainview; Keith (Patty) Marshman, Plainview; Laurie (Rich) Bartz, Rochester, and daughter-in-law, Carol (wife of the late Michael Marshman),  Plainview. Irene has 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, sister, Katherine Kerrins; sister-in-law Oma McGrath; Robert and Maureen Marshman (brother and sisters-in-law). She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben of 60 years and son, Michael.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, March 6 at 11:00 am St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Plainview.  Father Becker officiated. Burial is at St. Joachim Cemetery.  A visitation was held Monday, March 5 from 5:00 - 7:30 pm at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home Plainview and one hour prior to the Tuesday morning service.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
