Pickleball!
Pickleball, anyone?
The popular game, played on a small court with large, ping-pong-style paddles and plastic balls with holes, now has a venue in Plainview's Eastwood Park.
City workers in early August painted one of the tennis courts with regulation pickleball dimensions - 44 feet long and 20 feet wide (players can still use the court for tennis).
"We had some interest from some local people," Public Works Director Shane Loftus said. "The mayor brought it to the (city) council and it was discussed at a council meeting, so we put it in. The city had a couple hours of labor, and paint, so there's not a lot of investment, because we had the tennis courts there already. I'm hoping that it gets used. Now there's a new sport out there. If there's enough interest maybe we'll paint the other court as well."
