Richard Jacob Siem
Richard Jacob Siem, 87, of Rochester, passed away at his home in rural Rochester on Friday, February 21, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born November 26, 1937, in Rochester, MN to Edgar and Henrietta (Henke) Siem. Richard attended District 78 Olmsted County School through 6th grade and then attended Trinity Lutheran School in Rochester and was Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester in March of 1951. He graduated from Rochester Senior High School in 1955.
Richard met Sharon Nygren at a square dance in October of 1962 and they were married on November 2, 1963, at the Episcopal Church in Red Wing. They continued to dance and play cards with some of the same friends for over 50 years.
Richard farmed his entire lifetime as a dairy farmer with his dad and later with his own sons. He was a member of the Farmington Town Board for 47 years. Richard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Potsdam.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon Siem of Rochester; his children, Jeffrey (Denise) Siem, Danny Siem both of Rochester, Randy (Karen) Siem of Elgin, Cheryl Siem of Plainview, and Kevin Siem of Rochester; eighteen grandchildren, Olivia, Gannon, Luca, Destinee, Brady, Jarek, Danielle, Dylan, Ethan, Makenna, Michael, Noah, Emily, Erika, Alex, Holly, Morgan, and Jacob; four great-grandchildren, Bristol, Cora, Wesley, and Kenny; a sister, Patricia (Ray) Hart of Rochester, and a sister-in-law, Denise Siem of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas, two sisters, Maxine and Rosalee, a brother Roger, daughter-in-law, Linda.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Potsdam with Pastor Dale Kohrs officiating. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
