Roy Franklin Smith

Roy Franklin Smith, 93, of Plainview, passed away at his home on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2020. He was born December 15, 1926 in Plainview to Leslie and Edna (Ehrenberg) Smith. Roy grew up attending country school in rural Plainview. On April 4, 1956 he married Deloris Schreiber at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.

Roy lived his entire life in the Plainview area. He farmed and also drove truck. Roy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He especially enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, driving tractors, old time polka music, mountain dew and going to Pizza Ranch. He loved to drive and to take trips through the country side. Roy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his dog Jazzy.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Deloris Smith of Plainview; his children, Susan (Gus) Spring of Elgin and Bob (Lizzy) Smith of Plainview; five grandchildren, Jessica (Clayton) Kroening, Randy (Ashley) Spring, Brittany Smith, Trisha Smith, Mandy Smith, step-grandson, Lyle (Heather) Spring; and five great-grandchildren, Clarissa Kroening, Elsie Kroening, Noah Spring, Eli Spring, and Crosby Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Barb Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran School Christian Life Center, in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the Christian Life Center. Please follow the COVID-19 guidelines, and masks are encouraged to be worn.
