Ruth Elizabeth Siegenthaler
Ruth Elizabeth Siegenthaler, 105, died at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview on May 26, 2020. Ruth was born on June 10, 1914, on a farm near Willow Lake, South Dakota to James and Helen (Gilbert) Caldow. At the age of 6, she moved with her parents to a farm near Huron, South Dakota. After attending one-room schools in Beadle County, she graduated from high school in Huron in 1932. On January 26th, 1933, she married Paul Alfred Siegenthaler. They farmed near Huron until 1940 when they moved to a farm near Evansville, Wisconsin. In 1947 they moved to a farm near Postville, Iowa. In 1949 they purchased a farm in the Elgin-Plainview, Minnesota region. They retired to Plainview in 1978. Ruth was a member and secretary-treasurer of the Elgin-Millville Farm Bureau for several years. She was a member and President of the Woman’s Group of Community Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Plainview Senior Citizens group. Ruth loved embroidery, crocheting, flowers, reading, and travel.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Peggy) Siegenthaler of Grose Vale, Australia, and Kenneth Siegenthaler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-great-grandchildren and 1 sister Letha Renner of Huron, South Dakota.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Paul, brother Adam Caldow and sister Margaret Eden.
Due to the current health situation, the visitation and funeral service will be private but may be viewed on Zoom. The Zoom visitation will start at 10:15 a.m. and the service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30th at the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview with Pastor John Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. The link for the Zoom service will be published on schadandzabelfuneralhomes.com or the church web site at cpcplainview.com.
