Walter Leo Schmit

Walter L. Schmit died unexpectedly at his home in Dover on December 15, 2019 at the age of 84. He was born November 21, 1935 in Wabasha County to John and Louise (Miller) Schmit. Walter attended rural Country School.
Walter married Cecile Mueller on July 20, 1955 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Elba, MN. He was a life long farmer where he and Cecile raised their children. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Walter is survived by his wife, and his 11 children, Debbie (Mike) Sexton of Elgin, Dan Schmit of Plainview, Everet (Dixie) Schmit of Plainview, Walter “Sonny” (Barbara) Schmit of Aurora, MN, Eugene (Kristine) Schmit of Elgin, Ron Schmit of Dover, Bill (Pam) Schmit of Dover, Lori (Adam) Worth of Rochester, Ellie (Dennis) Scofield of Eyota, Craig (Molly) Schmit of St. Charles, and Fran (Amy) Schmit of St. Charles; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Edwin Schmit of Kellogg, and John Schmit of Eyota; 4 sisters: Marge (Harry) Dessner of Kasson, Rose Welke of Rochester, Janet (Allan) Rahman of Theilman, and Patty (Pat) Fohrman of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
The funeral for Walter will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota, MN. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. December 20, 2019 at the Church and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba, MN.
