Back in the Saddle again: York-Northfield Trail Ride now in 30th year

By Lori Johnson

YORK - NORTHFIELD - The weather couldn't have cooperated better than it did back on May 10 and 11. That was good news for the York-Northfield Sportsmen's Club's annual trail ride.

Around 35 riders came to enjoy the weekend of riding. The event celebrates its 30th year in 2025, and preparing for it is a labor of love for the many people behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly and everyone has their usual good time. They have everything from issuing invitations, to planning meals and rest stops, and clearing the trails down to a science. There are at least a dozen club members out leading the ride and another dozen in the kitchen throughout the weekend. The end results are amazing!

Why is this event is so enjoyed and people keep coming back? One reason is the time spent on the beautiful trail itself, thanks to the many landowners giving permission for the riders to cross the 20 plus miles of trails. To a horse person, being on their favorite mount, going along the trails is the ultimate way to relax. Enjoying the great outdoors while connecting with people they might not have seen since the last trail ride is a lot of fun. To stop for great meals they don't have to make is a real treat. The ride includes three stops on Saturday, including lunch. When they get back to camp, supper is waiting for them. Sunday breakfast is also served and there is time for a short ride if desired before ending the weekend.

When not on horseback, there is fun catching up with friends, or the local establishments usually have fun things planned for the weekend, And of course, looking forward to the next trail ride!
