Carol Ann Chilson

Carol Ann Chilson 78, died Sunday March 27, 2016 at Strum Area Health and Rehab.
She was born September 7, 1937 to Clarence and Mary (Lutz) Peterson. She lived at 126 South 13th Avenue and attended Aquinas High School, graduating in 1955. While she attended Aquinas she was Homecoming Queen at Campion High School in Prairie du Chien.
Carol attended Wisconsin State College – La Crosse (now UW-La Crosse). In college, Carol was a member of the College Dance Team, L-Bar-X. She was also an avid bowler and won numerous trophies. She graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Carol received a Life License from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and was certified to teach English, Speech, Drama and Forensics.
Her first teaching position was with Nekoosa Public Schools in August of 1959 where she taught English, Dramatics and Forensics. There she met her future husband, John Chilson who taught Art. They were married on June 18, 1960. In 1960, Carol and John moved back to her home town of La Crosse. John taught for the Holmen School District and Carol became an English and Speech teacher at Aquinas High School. Carol took some time off from teaching to start raising a family (Michael in 1961 and Deborah in 1964). After a few years the siren song of teaching called her back to work for the La Crosse School District as a Homebound teacher. As Carol’s children grew older she looked for new challenges and worked with her mother (Mary) for a local business, Charlotte’s Bridal Shop. Carol later started her own business with her good friend Carol Drake. She was a lifelong, avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Carol is survived by her two children, Michael (Susan) Chilson of Green Bay, WI; and Deborah (Thomas) Bilski of Strum, WI; five grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Benjamin Bilski, and Stefanie Chilson, three great grandchildren Brennan, Avery, and Addison. She is also survived by one sister Jean (Lyle) Feely of Boise, Idaho.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday April 1, at St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church, rural Osseo, with Father Derek Sakowski officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.
