Citizen concerns take up much of Strum Village Board meeting
STRUM - There was plenty of public input during the May meeting of the Strum Village held on the 8th in the Strum Civic Center.
Citizen Tim Mitchell addressed the board regarding the alley construction project. He told the Board his business has a water meter in a neighboring building which will need to be altered due to state law and will need its own service line, which will require concrete to be dug up if it can’t be done by a directional bore. Village Public Works Director Brad Olson will contact the contractor and meet with Mitchell to discuss the options
Citizens Dave and Marlys Bjorklund spoke to the Board about their March water bill, which they believe to be unfairly high as the Village had them trickle water in the winter due to shallow water line. The Board approved a motion adjust the billing to 6000 gallons for the quarter instead
Citizen Mary Peterson had spoke to the Board about an email she sent last November to the board members asking for them to observe the condition of a property on 7th St. She wrote about the rundown vehicles, lumber, junk etc. The Village responded with a letter was sent to the property owner and Police Chief Marsolek stopped by to let them know to clean up the property. Peterson stated to the Board that it hasn’t gotten better and had pictures of the property to prove this.. The Public Safety Chair Greg Rindal and Chief Marsolek will go speak with the property owners again and address the ordinance violations.
Citizen Jeremy Hanson spoke to the Board about Strum Residence LLC. He lives directly to the west of Strum Residence LLC and told board members workers walk through his yard with garbage and also smoke on the front sidewalk and drop cigarette butts. Hanson has called the Village Hall numerous times and Clerk Loken has been in contact with the owners and the property manager. The Public Safety Committee will talk to Chief Marsolek and get this situation resolved.
On their agenda, the Board approved a building permit for a deck to a property owned by Bryan Hamm on W. Hickory St. and and a building permit for a garage for Nick Bergeron on Elm St. The Board also approved committee assignments and approved a Firework display for July 2 off of Woodland Dr.
