Eleva-Strum boys, Fall Creek girls off to strong starts this season

Two meets, two wins for the Eleva-Strum High School Boys Track and Field Team
The Cardinals have hosted two meets already on their newely resurfaced track and in both the Cardinal boys, the defending Dairyland Conference champions, have come away winners.
The first was the Early Bird Invitational held back on April 8. E-S amassed 150 points, ahead of Cumberland's 124 and Cadott's 104. Augusta's boys finished seventh in the 10-team meet with 50 points and Osseo-Fairchild had 10 points to finish ninth.
Event by event, the E-S boys were third in the 3200-meter relay; sophomore Bo Windjue and junior Reede Brown were 1-2 in the 110-meter high hurdles with Windjue's winning time :19.39; junior Luis Kinser was seventh in 100-meter dash; junior Alex Awe placed fourth in the 1600-meter run; E-S was fourth in both the 400 and 800-meter relays; senior returning letterman Jack Preston was second in the 400-meter dash; junior Gabe Wakefield was fifth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; sophomore Shay Payne placed fifth in the 800-meter run; senior returning letterman Brennan Hanner won the 200-meter dash in :24.71 seconds and the team of Brennan Hanner, Axel Young, Reede Brown and Jack Preston won the 1600-meter relay in 3:50.56.
The Cards also got points in the high jump as junior returning letterwinner Russell Hulett won with a 5-6 mark; junior Axel Young and Windjue finished 3-6 in the pole vault; Hulett was second, Hanner fourth and Kinser seventh in the long jump; Young was fourth in the triple jump; junior letterman Jaxon Rundal won the discus with a toss of 117-2 with Browne second, freshman Xavie Franzwa fourth and junior Daniel Segerstrom seventh and Rindal placed third in the shot put, showing Eleva-Strum's strength and depth in the field events, especially the throws. It was a sweep of the top of the discus standings that pushed E-S to the top of the Dairyland Conference meet as year ago.
The Cardinal Invite was last Tuesday, April 15 and E-S won the boys team title with 150 point to Stanley-Boyd's 135 and Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran's 89 points. Augusta finished with 63 points.
E-S won the 3200-meter relat in a time of 9:36 with athe team of Russell Hulett, Jack Preston, Logan Reisenweber, Shay Payne. They also won the 1600 relay in 3:54 with a team consisting of Brennan Hanner, Axel Young, Logan Reisenweber and Jack Preston. The Cards also finished fourth in the 100 relay and second in the 800.
Other points for the E-S boys came from Windjue, third in the 110 high hurdles; Kinser, eighth in the 100; Awe, fifth in the mile run; Preston, first in the 400 in :56.60 seconds; Young, third in the 300-IM hurdles and Wakefield sixth; Payne, sixth in the 800; Hanner, second in the 200; Awe, second in the 3200; Hulett, second in the high jump; Young, tied for first in the pole vault with Windjue and Reisenweber tied for fourth; Hulett and Hanner 3-4 in the long jump; Young and Payne, 6-7 in the triple jump; Franzwa, Rindal and Segerstrom, third, sixth and seventh in the discus; and the same trio placed in the shot put with Rindal second, Franzwa fourth and Segerstrom seventh.
The Dairyland Confrence had a six-team meet at Augusta back on April 10 which Whitehall won the boys' team title at 176 followed by Melrose-Mindoro 132, Central 111, Independence/Gilmanton 63, Augusta 42 and Osseo-Fairchild seven. Scoring points for the E-S boys were, by event order, second in the 3200-meter relay; Brown and Windjue, second and fourth in the 110 hurdles; Kinser, sixth in the 100; third in the 800 relay; Preston, third in the 400; the team of Luis Kinser, Brennan Hanner, Brock Stendahl, Reede Brown winning the 400 relay in :49.05 seconds; Young and Windjue, second and seventh in the 300 IM hurdles; Payne, seventh in the 800; Hanner and Hulett, 5-6 in the 200; second in the 1600 relay; Hulett, first in the high jump at 5-8; Windjue, sixth in the pole vault; Hulett, Hanner and Widjue, 2-5-6 in the long jump; Young, sixth in the triple jump; Rindal, Brown and Franzwa, 2-4-6 in the discus with Rindal third and Franzwa eigth in the shot put.
In the same meet the Eleva-Strum girls tied Melrose-Mindoro for first in the team scores at 129 points (with Augusta fifth with 42, Osseo-Fairchild sixth with 17 points) showing they have a chance of competing too for the Dairyland Conference title.
Scoring points for the E-S girls in event order were the team of Ashlyn Hanson, Amalia Dyar, Olivia Spangberg and Clara Christ in 3200-meter relay winning in a time of 11:45.82. Junior returning letterwinner Liza Kulig place second in the 100-meter high hurdles while teammate sophomore Lily Ross finished third; sophomore Avery Spanberg was second in the 100-meter dash and freshman Brenley Bauer placed eighth; senior letterwinner Dyar was sixth in the mile run; the team of Kaya Franson, Taytum Koxlien, Ella McConnell, Avery Spangberg won the 800-meter relay in 2:02; senior letterwinner Kenzie King finished fifth in the 400; E-S was second in the 400-meter relay; Kulig placed second and Ross sixth in the 300-meter low hurdles; sophomore Annelyse Preston finished second in the 3200-meter run; the team of Aliza Kulig, Ashlyn Hanson, Annelyse Preston and Ella McConnell won the 1600-meter relay in 4:38; Kulig also won the high jump witgh a leap of 4-10 while junior Callan Skoug finished seventh; Spanberg was second and Ross fifth in the pole vault; Koxlien finished second and McConnell fifth in the long jump; Hanson was second in the triple jump; King won the discus with a toss of 109-11 while Bauer finished sixth and freshman Sydney Hanner seventh and Skoug finished eighth in the shot put.
At the Early Bird Invitational, the E-S girls finished second in the 3200 relay; Kulig took second and Ross fourth in the 100 hurdles; Spangberg was fifth in the 100 dash; Preston and Dyar were 3-7 in the 1600-meter run; E-S was second in the 400, 800 and 1600-meter relays; Kulig won the 300 hurdles in :54.74 seconds with Ross finishing eighth and Kulig was second in the high jump; Spanberg was sixth in the pole vault; Hanson took fourth in the triple jump; King was second and senior letterwinner Olivia Caponigro was third in the discus with Caponigro second in shot put. The Cardinals finished third with 114 points while Augusta was eighth with 21 points and O-F ninth with 12.
E-S girls were second in the Cardinal Invite back on the 15th with 118.5 points to team titlist Stanley-Boyd's 142.5 points. Augusta was seventh with 33 points.
Caponigro won the shot put with a put of 29-5. She also took third in the discus which was won by King with a toss of 99 feet, eighth inches. Junior Eveelyn Barneson was eighth in the triple jump as was McConnell in the long jump. Spangberg took fourth in the pole vault. Kulig cleared five feet to win the high jump while Skoug finished eighth. Spangberg placed fourth in the 200. Barneson was fourth in the 300 low hurdles. Preston took second in the 400 and Dyar placed fifth in the mile run. McConnell finished sixth in the high hurdles. E-S relays teams finished first in the 400, 1600 and 3200 raaces and were second in the 800.
Fall Creek's girls finished second behind track powerhouse Prescott in the Altoona Invitational last week Monday, April 14 by a margin of 167-120. Point-scorers for the Crickets in the girls' meet were junior letterwinner Becca Sturz in the 100-meter dash, first in :13.56 seconds with senior teammate Reese Lucken finishing fifth; Sturz sweeping the short sprints with a first in the 200 in :27.80 seconds; sophomore Audrey Koehler, second in the 800-meter and 3200-eter runs; freshman Johannah Grossinger, eighth in the 100-meter high hurdles; sophomore Rylee Winsand, second in the 300-meter low hurdles; senior Mariah Sloop, winner of the high jump wth a mark of five feet even; senior letterwinner Alena Sanfelippo winning the long jump with a leap of 17-1 and teammate Winsand second; Winsand second in the triple jump; junior letterwinner Corina Grossinger, fifth in the discus and junior teammate Emma Novak-Bougie eighth. FC also placed fourth in the 3200-meter relay and won the 800 in a time of 1:48.54, the team of Sanfelippo, Lucken, Winsand and Stursz.
Fall Creek's boys team, in the same Altoona meet fifinished fifth with 53 points with Prescott winning the men's team title as well. Sophomore letterman Koen Tumm was sixth in the 100 and seventh in the long jump while winning the triple jump with a mark of 41-5. Junior Patrick Lebels placed fifth in the 200 and eighth in the 400; senior letterman Caleb Steinke placed third in the 800 and sixth in the high jump; juniors Ian Viring and Trevor Whittlinger finished 5-6 in the shot put; junior Lincoln Burr finished second in the discus while Whittlinger was eighth. And FC finished fourth in the 400 relay, eighth in the 800 and seventh in the 3200.
Augusta's point-scorers in their three meets from the past two weeks are as follows: At the Early Bird on April 8, the Beavers' Noemi Lahn, a sophomore, placed second in the 1600-meter run; junior Dasan Downey finished seventh in the mile run; junior Samantha Hanson was eighth in the 400; AHS girls finished sixth in the 400 relay; senior returning letterman Preston Schafer finished second in the 800; freshman Zale Pettis finished third in the 200 and sophomore Aiden Schmidt placed seventh; Augusta boys 1600-meter relay team finished fourth; senior Tatum Kruger finished sixth in the shot put; AHS senior letterman Michael Smith won the shot put with a mark of 42-1 and finished second in the discus. His senior teammate Matt Hoff placed fifth.
At the DC six-team meet, the Beavers' first home meet of the season, back on April 10; sophomore Stephanie Bergman finished seventh in the 100-meter dash; Lahn finished fifth in the 1600; Pettis won the boys' 1600 in 5:09 with Schafer taking third and Downey seventh. AHS girls' 800 relay was third; Hanson finished fourth in the 400; Schmidty finished seventh in the boys' 400; junior letterwinner Zoey Gunter placed fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles; Pettis placed third in the 800 run; Hanson and junior Annabelle Goetz were 7-8 in the 200-meter dash; Downey was fourth in the 3200; Gunter finished fourth in the high jump and third in the triple jump; Bergman placed fourth in the long jump while Goetz was eighth; senior Caiden Randal placed seventh in the long jump; Kruger placed third in the discus and shot put and Smith won the shot put with a toss of 41-5 while taking third in the discus while Hoff was seventh.
In the Cardinal Invite on Tuesday, April 15, Lahn finished eighth in the mile run and fifth in the two-mile while Downey finished sixth in the 1600. The AHS girls 800 team finished third while the boys finished fourth; Hanson finished sixth in the 400 while junior Victoria Olson finished eighth; Gunter was fifth in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump. Kruger finished third in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Smith won the discus with a mark of 121-2 while Hoff placed fourth and in the shot put, Smith won again with a toss of 40-7 while Hoff finished third.
Osseo-Fairchild's track and field team was at the Altoona Invitational on April 14. Points for the Thunder in that meet came from sophomore Jason Sedillo in the 110-meter high hurdles; seventh; the girls 400-meter relay, sixth; and senior Jillian Scheffer in the high jump, seventh. At the DC meet in Augusta on April 10, junior Alyssa Burmesch won the Thunder's lone title in the 3200-meter run in 16:14. She also finished eighth in the high jump. Sedillo finished sixth in the 110 hurdles; Scheffer was fifth in the 100; senior Nolan Olson finished seventh in the 100; the boys' 400 relay was third; Scheffer took sixth in the high jump and junior Matt Jennings placed seventh in the shot put.
Upcoming meets next week include the Colfax Invitational on Thursday, April 24 and the Neillsville Invite on April 22. Fall Creek's meet in Menomonie at the Mustang Invitational was cancelled last week Thursday, April 17 due to inclement weather.
