Eleva-Strum golfers continue early season success

Eleva-Strum junior golf Garrett Gullicksrud won another Dairyland Confernce meet shooting a nine-hole score of 34 at The Grove GC hosted by Cochrane-Fountain City back on April 24.
Gullicksrud's senior teammate Nic Ellis fifth shooting a 37, however the host Pirates placed six golfers in the top 10 individually. C-FC stayed ahead of Eleva-Strum in the DC team standings by winning a nine-hole home meet at The Grove GC back on April 24 by a margin of 145-158 with Alma/Pepin at 167, Blair-Taylor 171, Whitehall 178, O-F 192 and Independence/Gilmanton 220.
Other Tri-County Area golfers competing in this meet (both varsity and JV golfers) included freshman Cashton Kulig for E-S, a 41; freshman Ty Skoyen for Osseo-Fairchild, 42; senior Jack Steinke for O-F, 43; junior Camyrn Burback of Central, 44, her freshman teammate Asher Franson, also 44; senior Graysen Stahlheim of Osseo-Faichild, 53; fellow Thunder golfers junior Orion Prudlick 54 along with senior Cole Schoettle, both at 54; freshman Hunter Pederson of Eleva-Strum, 56; sophomore Mason Knudtson of O-F, 57, and senior Briley Durst of O-F 59.
Meanwhile, also last Thursday, April 24, the Western Cloverbelt Conference held a meet at Whisperings Pines Golf Course in Cadott and the host Hornets upset No. 5 ranked Bloomer in Divsion 2 by a single stroke, 167-168 to win the meet title with McDonell/Regis third at 180, Stanley-Boyd fourth at 188 and Fall Creek fifth at 220. Bloomer junior Connor Gould was the meet medalist with a score of 39 followed by teammate Bodie Barbieau with a score of 40 and Cadott's Colin Kowalczyk and Parker Davis tied for third at 41 and the Hornets' Brady Goettel fourth at 42. Fall Creek's top golfer was junior Evan Seidling shooting a 43 followed by junior Ben Raap, 54, senior Ty Costley 60, junior Marcus Kleinhans 63 and seniuor Quinn Kinderman 65.
Dairyland Conference leader and the No. 3 ranked team in the state in Division 3 Cochrane-Fountain City, pulled in an impressive performance at the Sparta Invitational played back on April 26. The Pirates' Cameron Lipinski shot a blistering three-under par 18-hole score of 69 at River Run Golf Course to win the meet individual title and two of his teammates, Evan Leverance and Reed Schmidknecht both finished in the top 20 as well to lead C-FC to the team title with a score of 319, edging out Division 1 Onalaska with a score of 324. The Pirates are just behind other regional teams, No. 1 Chetek-Weyerhaeuser and No. 2 Durand-Arkansaw in the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin latest state team poll. Osseo-Fairchild finished 16th out of 17 teams competing with a score of 399 led by freshman Ty Skoyen's score of 94 followed by junior Orion Prudlick's score of 100, senior Jack Steinke's score of 101, sophomore Mason Knudtson's score of 104 and senior Graysen Stahlheim's score of 115.
The Osseo Golf Club played host to a Dairyland Conference meet held last week Tuesday, April 22. C-FC was again the winner with a score 157 followed by Alma/Pepin 170, Eleva-Strum 186, Blair-Taylor 195, Whitehall 196, Osseo-Fairchild 197 and Independence/Gilmanton 243. The meet medalist was Schmidknecht with a score of 38 and four golfers tied for second with scores of 39 including Gullicksrud. Leverance and A/P's Anders Johansen tied for third with scores of 41.
Other E-S golfers were Kulig, 46; Burback, 47; Pederson 49; freshman Anders Nelson 52 and Franson, 54. For Osseo-Fairchild on their home course, the Thunder were led by Skoyen with a 46, Stahlheim, 48; freshman Harrison Fisher with a score of 50; freshman Dalton Clark, 51; Kundtson, 51; Steinke, 52; junior Aiden Auth, 64; sophomore Izaiah Green and Prudlick, both 55s; senior Lincoln Bertrang, 57; freshman Aidan Everson 58; Durst 59 and Schoettle, 62.
As the calendar turns to May, the upcoming Bloomer Invitational on Friday at Veterans Memorial Golf Course, which is an 18-hole event that Fall Creek and Osseo-Fairchild will take part in. Their are two DC meets next week on Tuesday, May 6 at Whitehall and Thursday, May 8 at Wabasha, Minn. GC hosted by Alma/Pepin. The next day E-S and C-FC will both golf in a meet at Delbrook Golf Course in Williams Bay which will be the site of the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet both teams will play in. Dairyland teams will play again in Wabashqa as part of the 18-hole Wabasha-Kellogg Invitational on May 12 before 18-hole official conference meet to be held May 19 at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course hosted by C-FC. Fall Creek's schedule has them at the 18-hole Marshfield Columbus Invite on May 6, the 18-hole Stanley-Boyd Invite May 12 at Whispering Pines, one more WCC meet in Eau Claire on May 15 and then the full Cloverbelt Conference meet on May 20 at Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls. WIAA regionals are at the end of the month, May 27 and 28.
