M-E-S wrestlers win dual over rival Durand-Arkansaw

The Mondovi/Eleva-Strum Co-op Wrestling Team traveled to Durand-Arkansaw last week Thursday, Jan. 11 for a dual meet. M-E-S won by a score of 48-34. Winning matches for M-E-S were: 113-Barrett Fedie, 132- AJ Loscheider, 138-Coby Vollmer, 150-James Anderson, 165-Blaize Parker, 175-Ethan Odegard, 190- Alex Coffey, 215- David Nyre and 285-Blaine Severson. The Buffaloes improved their dual meet record to 8-8.

M-E-S wrestlers then competed at the annual Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13. They placed sixth as a team. Individual place winners were: 175- Ethan Odegard 4th, 190- Alex Coffey 4th and 285-Blaine Severson 3rd.

"We had a good win over Durand, which is always good, but we didn’t perform as good as I had hoped in Chippewa. We are going to have to pick-it-up a notch this week." commented Coach Randy Pongratz.

M-E-S hosts Boyceville for a dual meet on Thursday, January 18. The very next day, Jan. 19, the female wrestlers on the team travel to Saint Croix Falls for a tournament. On Saturday, Jan. 20 the team travels to Arcadia for the 18-team Arcadia Raider Challenge which starts at 9:00 am at the Wanek Center.

Meanwhile, the Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek Tri-County Area co-op team had the weekend off but were busy with dual meets during last week. The Dragons squared off against Whitehall on the road Tuesday, Jan. 12 with the Norse winning 60-12. Individual winners for the Dragons were Mason Antczak at 150 pounds and Gryphon Brown at 215. Both wrestlers won their respective matches by pin. Mason's win is his team leading 15th win of the season.

Two days later OFAFC competed in a Cloverbelt Conference triangular meet hosted by Bloomer/Colfax in Colfax along with Abbostford/Colby. The Dragons lost both duals, 48-18 to the Falcons and 33-12 to the Blackhawks but individual winners include Aliyah Zamora at 106 with a pin of Amelia Meier in :34 seconds, Antczak and Brown against Abby/Colby and Brown and Reeve Buchholz at 132 vs. Bloomer/Colfax. Gryphon's pin against Bloomer/Colfax was his team leading 10th pin of the season and Bucholz also notched a pinfall victory. The Dragons dual meet record is 3-15 overall.

The Dragons host their own conference quad meet this Thursday, Jan. 18 at Osseo-Fairchild beginning at 4:30 p.m. competing against Chippewa Falls McDonell/Elk Mound, Stanley-Boyd and Spencer/Marshfield Columbus. The team will be busy on Saturday, Jan. 20 as the boys compete in the Sparta Invitational and the girls take part in the Wisconsin Women's Wrestling Challenge at Wausau West.
