O-F advances to regional semis, other Tri-County Area teams ousted

Osseo-Fairchild was the lone Tri-County Area prep girls basketball teams to their WIAA regional tournament, first round game Tuesday evening, Feb. 20.
The Thunder (14-11 overall) took a 38-18 lead at halftime over Nekoosa in Division 4 and held the Papermakers (4-20) to just 10 points in the second half thanks to a ferocious press which caused many Nekoosa turnover while scoring off those TOs to the tune of 30 points in the second half.
O-F has a great challenge in front of it Friday, Feb. 23 in the regional semifinal at No. 10 ranked Westfield (21-3). O-F is a No. 7 seed in its tournament bracket while Westfield is a No. 2. The winner of this game will face either No. 6 seed Melrose-Mindoro or No. 3 seed Bangor in the regional finals Saturday at 7 p.m. with the lower seed hosting.

Joining the Thunder in playing Friday is No. 7 ranked Fall Creek (21-3) The top-seeded Crickets host No. 9 seed Boyceville (10-15), a 58-55 upset winner over No. 8 Unity last night. Hannah Dunn, a senior, is the Bulldogs' top scorer, averaging over 10 ppg and also leads the team in assists. Other top B'ville players include senior Sarah Stoveren, sophomore Aubrey Malean and freshman Chelsi Holden. Tip-Time is at 7 p.m, at FCHS. The winner of this semifinal match-up faces either No. 4 Colfax (16-8) and No. 5 Grantsburg (16-8) on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the lowest remaining seed.

Two Tri-County Area Teams had their seasons ended last evening.
In Division 5, Eleva-Strum (5-19) rallied from a 12-point second half deficit but were unable to topple No. 3 seed Independence/Gilmanton (18-7) and lost 41-36 in Gilmanton. In Division 4, No. 10 Augusta fell behind 55-27 at halftime to No. 7 Mondovi (15-10) and lost 87-40 at Mondovi
