OFAFC wrestling team aiming for more state glory in 2024

Could state championship lighting strike twice in a row for the Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek Tri-County prep wrestling co-op program?

Last year OFAFC's Breanna Wier went on to win first place at 157 pounds in the first WIAA State Girls Wrestling Tournament held before a Kohl Center audience in Madison.

The Dragons have two female wrestlers on this year's team: junior Aaliyah Zamora, who competed at state last year as well at 100 pounds and won a match along with freshman Abby Moss at 126, who won firsrt place in the Barron Invitational held last weekend.

"Breanna's run at state was awesome," OFAFC head coach dan Schulte said. "She is an extremely hard worker and we were so happy for her. On the girls side, Aaliyah is looking to improve on her going 1-2 at state last season. And incoming freshman Abby Moss has really worked hard in the off season by competing in many tournaments to get her to a point where she could compete for a trip to the state tournament this year as a freshman."

Moss is one of four freshmen on the Dragon's roster this season to add to their numbers along with Reeve Bucholz and Brett Knuth in the middleweights and Noah Kruger at 190. One other newcomer is senior Mason Antczak wrestling at 150 pounds and has already made an impact wrestling.

"Mason Antczak has shown some real promise coming out his senior year," Schulte said. "Reeve Bucholz, once he is able to come back, has showed great wrestling ability in middle school."

Senior Gryphon Brown is a returning lettermen at 215 and he's joined on the roster by sophomore Matthew Jennings at heavyweight. sophomore Jheric Willi at 150 and senior Braden Knuth at 1257. The Dragons graduated Wier, Cayden Guntner, Dustin Sudbrink, Hunter Breaker, Bryce Armstrong-Baglien from last season's squad.

OFAFC has a home duel meet vs. Blair-Taylor this Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Osseo-Fairchild.
