Richard Owens

Richard Byron “Dick” Owens, 74, of Strum, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at his home, while in the care of his loving family and MCHS Home Health and Hospice.
Dick was born September 22, 1941 in DeKalb County, MO to James and Alice McCoy. He graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio, MO in 1959. On September 18, 1959 he entered the US Navy and served until September 19, 1962.
While working in Strum he met the love of his life, Judy Brian and they were married on June 6, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum.
Dick worked at Uniroyal in Eau Claire for 27 years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, wild mushroom hunting, birdwatching, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with his family. Dick was a loving husband, father and teacher. He wrote many journals and was known as the “Trivia King”.
Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy; son Paul Owens (Amy Ives) of Whitehall; daughters Angie (Jack) Torpen of Strum and Barbara (Mike) Warden of Eleva; eight grandchildren, Josh (Sara) Torpen, Trevor Torpen, Anthony Owens, Brett Owens, Autumn Rehling, Ben Rehling, Mark Warden and Olivia Warden; three great grandchildren, Ian, Graham and Emmitt Torpen. He is further survive by his mother-in-law, Irene Brian of Strum; sisters-in-law, Rhonda (Scott) Krueger of Strum, Lou Ann Marsolek of Cudahy, Jean Brian and Debbie Brian; many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice; great grandson Elijah Torpen; father-in-law Richard Brian; son-in-law, Tim Rehling; brothers-in-law, William Marsolek, Sigurd Brian and Dean Brian.
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Strum with Rev. K.D. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Strum.
Friends called from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo. Friends could also call from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Wednesday.
